Day 1:
Departure from Belgrade in the morning. Our journey begins toward the spot where the Danube is at its widest — the magnificent Golubac Fortress. This impressive 15th-century stronghold, declared a cultural monument of exceptional importance, was recently fully restored and now stands as one of the most beautiful and best-preserved fortresses in Europe. Over the centuries, Golubac has inspired countless painters and poets with its striking silhouette overlooking the river. We then continue with a scenic drive through the Djerdap National Park, following the Danube’s winding course until we reach Lepenski Vir, one of Europe’s most significant prehistoric archaeological sites. After exploring this remarkable open-air museum, the road takes us further through the breathtaking Đerdap Gorge to the ethno complex Captain Misha’s Hill (Kapetan Mišin breg), where we’ll take a break to rest, enjoy local specialties, and admire the panoramic view of the Danube and the gorge. Our final destination for the day is Kladovo, a charming small town located at the eastern point of Serbia, right on the Danube’s edge. Overnight in Kladovo.
Day 2:
We are heading to Felix Romuliana. Nestled near the town of Zaječar lies this breathtaking Roman imperial complex and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by Emperor Galerius in the 4th century to honor his mother Romula, this magnificent site once dazzled with marble temples, mosaics, and towering walls. Today, its well-preserved ruins whisper stories of imperial glory, mythology, and power at the edge of the Roman Empire. Walking through Felix Romuliana is like stepping back in time — a journey into Serbia’s ancient heart. Moving on, we continue to Niš, the third-largest city in Serbia. One of Europe’s oldest cities, Niš is the vibrant heart of southern Serbia and the birthplace of Emperor Constantine the Great. Stroll through its charming streets, savor traditional cuisine, and feel the unique energy of a city where East meets West — a true crossroads of history, culture, and hospitality. Overnight in Niš.
Day 3:
We depart from Nis in the morning and set off to visit one of the most impressive monasteries in Serbia — the Manasija Monastery. Founded by Despot Stefan Lazarevic, a Serbian prince and knight from the late 14th and early 15th centuries, Manasija stands as a masterpiece of medieval architecture and spirituality. Surrounded by mighty fortress walls, it has preserved its priceless 600-year-old frescoes for centuries. Our journey continues to the fascinating Resava Cave, one of Serbia’s most beautiful and oldest caves. Its vast, glittering halls, sculpted over millions of years, are adorned with countless stalactites and stalagmites that create an otherworldly atmosphere. Walking through Resava Cave is like entering a hidden underground palace of nature. Next, we head to Veliki Buk Waterfall (also known as Lisine Waterfall), one of Serbia’s most stunning natural sights. Here, the crystal-clear water cascades down lush, mossy rocks, creating a perfect backdrop for photos and relaxation. To complete the experience, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch in a traditional ethno restaurant, where you can taste freshly prepared trout from a local fishpond — a true local specialty. We return to Belgrade in the evening, filled with unforgettable memories of Serbia’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
