Day 1: Arrival in Lhasa

Welcome to Lhasa, the spiritual heart of Tibet, situated at an altitude of 3,650 meters. Upon your arrival, whether by train or flight, our Tibetan guide will greet you with a traditional Hada, symbolizing purity and compassion. As you journey to your hotel in downtown Lhasa, you will have the opportunity to catch your first glimpses of the Yarlung Tsangpo River (Brahmaputra) and the Lhasa River. After checking in, it’s essential to rest and acclimate to the high altitude. In the evening, your guide will provide an orientation session, offering you traditional Tibetan gifts and briefing you on the travel itinerary. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 2: Lhasa Exploration – Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery

Start your day with a visit to Drepung Monastery, once the largest monastery in Tibet, housing over 10,000 monks. As you explore the grand halls, your guide will enlighten you on the history and philosophy of Tibetan Buddhism, introducing you to significant figures and events. Later, you will visit Loseling College within the monastery complex, where you will witness the daily life of Tibetan monks and their rigorous studies. In the afternoon, proceed to Sera Monastery, renowned for its vibrant monk debates held in the monastery courtyard. These debates are an integral part of the monks’ learning process, providing a fascinating insight into their intellectual and spiritual practices. After an enriching day, enjoy a welcome dinner with your group. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 3: Lhasa Exploration – Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor Street

Today, delve deeper into Lhasa’s spiritual and cultural heritage. Your day begins with a visit to the iconic Potala Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the former residence of the Dalai Lamas. The palace offers breathtaking views of Lhasa and is home to a vast collection of religious artifacts, including the gilded burial stupas of previous Dalai Lamas. After exploring the palace, visit Longwangtan Park, located at its base, to engage with local Tibetans and appreciate the palace from a different perspective. In the afternoon, visit Jokhang Temple, the most sacred temple in Tibet, housing a revered statue of Buddha Sakyamuni. Outside, pilgrims perform prostrations in devotion, and you can join them for a Kora (circumambulation) around the temple on Barkhor Street, which is also a vibrant marketplace. To conclude the day, relax in a traditional Tibetan teahouse, where your guide will explain Tibetan customs and daily life. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 4: Excursion to Yamdrok Lake

Embark on a picturesque journey to Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet’s three holy lakes. The drive from Lhasa offers stunning views of the Tibetan countryside, with the lake itself being a highlight. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, Yamdrok Lake is known for its striking turquoise waters, which change hues with the light. Begin your visit at Lurila Platform, where you can marvel at the expansive views of the lake and the Gulha Kangri Snow Mountain. Continue to Rutog Monastery, located on an island in the lake, where you will meet the solitary monk who resides there. Enjoy a traditional Tibetan lunch at a lakeside restaurant before returning to Lhasa via the Gampala Pass, which offers panoramic views of Yamdrok Lake stretching like a blue ribbon at the base of Noijin Kangsang Peak. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 5: Departure from Lhasa

As your journey through Tibet comes to an end, take a moment to reflect on the profound experiences and the spiritual awakening that Tibet offers. Your guide will assist with your departure arrangements, ensuring you reach the airport or train station for your onward journey.
