DAY 1,

ARRIVE TO LIMA
LIMA – CUSCO – SACRED VALLEY

At the appropriate time, you will be met by your transfer-man who will assist you with your flight to Cusco. On arrival in Cusco, meet and greet your guide who will assist you with your luggage and will drive you to your hotel located in the Sacred Valley. The Sacred Valley is located at a lower altitude than Cusco city which aids the acclimatization of the city.

TRANSFER TO THE SACRED VALLEY WITH VISIT ON ROUTE

When you arrive in Cusco, the Imperial City, you will be met by your private guide and private driver who will assist you with your luggage and will drive you to your hotel located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. On the way, visit a textile center to observe traditional Andean weaving and to see the four types of camel related Andean animals – llamas, guanacos, alpacas, and vicuñas. Alpacas have thick wool and are the most used while the vicuñas are small and delicate with fur considered the finest. This textile center is a weaving center with the goal to keep alive the traditional textile arts. Here you can meet these four types of camelids, learn about the harvesting of the different wools, the natural dying techniques and have a chance to see native weavers from different areas showing their different weaving secrets and lifestyle.

Lunch is enjoyed in the Hacienda Sarapampaamong the native plants, served in a modern environment. Hacienda Sarapampa will show you the experience of Giant White Corn production and show you why it is so special. You will learn about the origin of such a special variety and show you how farming was done during pre-columbian and colonial times from cultivation to trade in the international markets. After the tour, you will be taken to your hotel.

DAY 2,

FD OLLANTAYTAMBO, MARAS & MORAY

After breakfast continue to the fortress of Ollantay tambo which was believed to be constructed to guard the entrance to this part of the valley and protect it from invasions of tribes from the jungle lowlands. Later, it served as a temporary capital for Manco Inca, leader of the Inca resistance in 1,537 during the Spanish conquest of Peru, who fortified the town to stop the advance, as Cusco had fallen under Spanish domination. Additionally, this place is a ceremonial center dedicated to the purification and worship of water with 150 steps built with perfectly carved stones. The archaeological site includes a series of superimposed terraces and stunning finely carved stone blocks located on the upper terrace or Temple of the Sun. Then, take a journey in time through the Ollantay tambo town with its straight streets with perfectly laid stones that feature a canal for water to run through the town. Visit a couple of the most unique and interesting sites in the Sacred Valley. The Inca agricultural terraces of Moray are where the Incas experimented with agricultural techniques. Salineras is the artisan salt mine of Maras where an ancient salt spring fills the entire valley of plots that are dried out and various types of salt are sold. Lunch will be served today at a place with wonderful views of the Andes. Return to your hotel after this viists.

DAY 3,

SACRED VALLEY / MACHU PICCHU

This morning, you will be transferred to your train station in Ollantaytambo which is located close to the site where the old Inca hanging bridge crossed the Urubamba. Onboard the VISTADOME train you will move along the tracks following the river’s course into the jungle lowlands to Aguas Calientes a.k.a. Machu Picchu Pueblo (a 2-hour ride). This is the last stop before getting to the famous archaeological complex. Find crafts, books, restaurants, and an array of hotels in this buzzling town. The bus zigzags up the steep side of the mountain for nearly 20 minutes. The pre-Hispanic engineering marvel unveils itself gradually; this was the site Pachacutec Inca (1438-1572) chose as royal retreat and where his “malqui” or mummified remains were to be worshiped. Machu Picchu or “Old Mountain” is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders, yet the traveler senses a beauty unmatched by these or any other title. How was such a work accomplished? Granite stone buildings that seem to naturally sprout from the earth instead of being constructed on it.

After the visit to Machu Picchu, you will return to your hotel located down in Aguas Calientes town. Accommodation at Inkaterra hotel, for one night in one suite with pond. Set menu dinner will be served at the hotel

DAY 4,

MACHU PICCHU / SACRED VALLEY / CUSCO
2ND ENTRANCE TO MACHU PICCHU AND SURROUNDINGS (WITH GUIDE)

Early wake up and get on board the shuttle bus that will take us to Machu Picchu. This morning you will return to Machu Picchu and have a guided visit to any of the attractions of the citadel. On this day you will have the chance to visit the circuits that were left behind the day before.

In the afternoon, together with your guide, head to the train station of Aguas Calientes and from there take your afternoon VISTADOME train back to Cusco city. Upon arrival at the Urubamba train station, private transfer to your hotel in Cusco. Accommodation at Palacio del Inca Cusco hotel, for three nights in one deluxe room.

DAY 5,

CRUSING THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS AM: EGAS PORT (Santiago Island)

Inca rulers once called Cusco the “Navel of the World”. Cusco remains today a city that blends colonial Spanish charm with older, more austere remains of pre-Columbian glory. One can see the foundations of Inca structures on many of its city streets today. Today you will go on a guided visit of the Imperial City of Cusco. In this Cusco city tour, you will visit the Main Plaza, which has been the scene of great historical events in the Capital of the Incas, the main Cathedral church, built of great slabs of red granite in renaissance style and thus contrasting with the baroque style silverwork which decorates its interior.You will then continue to the Santo Domingo church, built upon the foundations of the Inca temple Koricancha, which was dedicated to Sun worship. Get to know the 12 cornered stones and know all the interesting facts this archaeological remain must tell.Following, you will head to the City’s nearby ruins; the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, a magnificent example of Incan military power; Qenqo, a ritualistic site with subterranean galleries that form an underground maze; Puca Pucara, the red fortress and finally Tambomachay, also known as the Incan Baths. After this amazing educative Cusco city tour, you will be driven back to your hotel. Balance of the day at leisure.

DAY 6,

FREE DAY IN CUSCO

Today is free for you to explore the beautiful city of Cusco. Cusco‘s cobblestone streets and colonial architecture tell the tale of its Inca and Spanish colonial past. The Plaza de Armas, the city’s main square, is surrounded by ornate churches and historic buildings, while the iconic Qori kancha showcases the fusion of Inca and Spanish architectural styles.

DAY 7,

CUSCO / LIMA / IQUITOS

At a convenient time, your guide will take you to the Cusco airport in time for your flight to Lima. Arrive in Lima and connect with your flight to Iquitos. Arriving on a noon flight, receive a warm welcome at Iquitos International Airport by our crew. Board our private transfer to downtown Iquitos, for a panoramic city tour and a welcome lunch. Then transfer to Nauta port for embarkation. Settle into your generously sized suite as you begin one of life’s greatest adventures. Following an introduction to our naturalist guides and a routine safety drill, gather at the restaurant for the first of many Amazonian cuisine experiences created by Aria Amazon’s renowned consulting chef, Pedro Miguel Schiaffino.

DAY 8,

CRUISING THE AMAZON

Get an early start to the day with a birdwatching excursion along the Marañon River. After breakfast, explore the black waters of Yanayacu Pucate River with a possibility to see sloths, great egrets, parrots, and Taricaya turtles. Visit an Amazon village to witness a demonstration of Aguaje palm harvesting. After lunch, go fishing for Amazonia´s notoriously ferocious piranhas. After dinner, head out on skiffs in search of nocturnal wildlife along the Yanayacu Pucate River.

DAY 9,

CRUISING THE AMAZON

The rewards of our early start today are plentiful, including a picnic lunch under the Amazonian shade, orchestrated to the sound of the jungle symphony. Go fishing along the black waters of Samiria River and choose to go on a jungle walk, canoeing, kayaking, or swimming inside the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Later, cruise along the Ucayali River and enjoy the sunset.

DAY 10,

CRUISING THE AMAZON

After breakfast, embark on a morning skiff excursion on the Marañon River. Make sure to bring along your binoculars as we try to spot sloths and birds along this majestic river. In the afternoon, we sail along the river to go to Puerto Prado, an indigenous village where there’ll be an opportunity to see giant water lilies.

DAY 11,

CRUISING THE AMAZON

In the morning, take a guided visit to the local market and marvel at the regional produce of the Peruvian Amazon. Return to Aria Amazon for breakfast before disembarkation. En route to the airport, visit the Manatee Rescue Center, where orphaned Amazonian manatees rehabilitate before they are released back into the wild. Once you finish this visit you will be taken to the airport in time for your flight back to Lima. Arrive in Lima and connect with your international flight.
