Ethiopia Discovery – 4 Nights / 5 Days Omo Valley Tour

DAY 1,

Addis Ababa – Arba Minch

Fly from Addis Ababa to Arba Minch. In the afternoon, you will drive up the hillside to the highland community of the Dorze people. The Dorze are famous for their weaving skills, and during your village tour, you will see some of their beautiful handwoven products. Their houses are also woven from bamboo.

You can try your hand at spinning thread and learn about the many uses of the enset (false banana) plant. After the visit, return to Arba Minch for an overnight stay.

Overnight: Arba Minch – Jinka Resort

DAY 2,

Arba Minch – Lake Chamo – Konso – Turmi

After an early breakfast, we take a drive to Lake Chamo for a boat trip to the famous “Crocodile Market,” a natural gathering place for giant Nile crocodiles—no actual buying or selling occurs. You will also see hippos and a variety of bird species.

Next, we continue to the Konso Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site consisting of 42 villages and surrounding terraced farmland. Home to around 250,000 people, the Konso region is renowned for its stone-terrace farming system, hillside fortifications, and waka—the carved wooden funerary statues of Konso chiefs.

Konso people are believed to have lived here for more than 400 years and speak a Cushitic language. After exploring the village, we continue to Turmi.

Overnight: Turmi – Tribal Life Eco Lodge

DAY 3,

Turmi – Dassanech – Hamar Village

In the morning, you will visit a village of the Dassanech people near Omerate. The Dassanech tribe is unique in that its identity is not strictly defined by ethnicity—they have absorbed many groups over generations. The tribe consists of eight clans, each believed to hold spiritual powers over elements such as water, crocodiles, snakes, drought, disease, and more.

Dassanech women and men adorn themselves with beads and bracelets, and clan members are forbidden from marrying—or even dancing with—someone from their own clan.

After visiting the village, return to Turmi for lunch.
In the afternoon, you may have the opportunity to witness a Hamar bull-jumping ceremony—a major rite of passage—or visit a traditional Hamar village.

Overnight: Turmi – Tribal Life Eco Lodge

DAY 4,

Turmi – Kara (Karo Tribe) – Jinka

After breakfast, drive to Korcho, a village of the Karo people located on a ridge overlooking the Omo River. The Karo are the least populous tribe in the Omo Valley but are renowned for their elaborate body painting and unique cultural traditions.

After spending ample time interacting with the community, continue driving to Jinka.

Overnight: Jinka – Nasa Hotel

DAY 5,

Jinka – Mursi Village – Addis Ababa

In the morning after breakfast, we drive through Mago National Park to visit a village of the Mursi people. Mursi women are known for wearing circular clay plates in their lower lips and ear lobes, while Mursi men practice the traditional donga (stick fighting).

After the tour, return to Jinka Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa.

Overnight: Addis Ababa – Metas Hotel
